Vall d’Hebron University Hospital is the largest hospital com-
plex in Catalonia and one of the largest in Spain. It has a team
of 6,910 professionals and a budget of ¤594 million. The hos-
pital is located at the foot of the Collserola Hills surrounding
the city of Barcelona and its area of influence includes the
neighbourhoods of Horta-Guinardó, Nou Barris and Sant
Andreu, and the city of Montcada i Reixac, i.e. a population of
400,000 people. Vall d’Hebron is a referral hospital in highly
complex tertiary procedures for Catalonia, Spain and the
international community.
The hospital complex is organized in three main care areas:
the General Area, the Maternal/Child Area and the Trauma
Care and Rehabilitation Area. There is an Outpatient Surgery
Unit at nearby Pere Virgili Healthcare Park and the hospital
has also extended its activity to different primary care cen-
tres in Catalonia.
With more than 1,100 beds, the hospital uses a patient-cen-
tred management model when providing services and
demonstrates its commitment to the future through tea-
ching, research and innovationwhile promoting participation
in Catalan, Spanish and European research projects. Quality
is a core value of the professionals who work at the hospital,
which has been consolidated as a point of reference in Spain
and abroad. Vall d’Hebron University Hospital follows the
strategies and initiatives laid out by the Catalan Health Insti-
tute, the company it belongs to, and the Catalan Ministry of
Health.
The hospital complex provides virtually all medical and surgi-
cal specialities and has the care modalities and nursing care
required to ensure such coverage. It also provides clinical ser-
vices and has clinical support units, university teaching cen-
tres, public healthcare services companies, research centres,
laboratories and other facilities that complete the hospital’s
healthcare activity.
