RESUMEN
El Hospital Universitario Vall d’Hebron es uno de los comple-
jos hospitalarios, docentes e investigadores más grandes de
Cataluña y uno de los mayores del Estado español, con más
de 22 edificios y 7.000 profesionales al servicio de la salud y
de los pacientes. Tiene un presupuesto de más de 560 millo-
nes de euros y está situado al pie de la sierra de Collserola, al
norte de la ciudad de Barcelona. Su área de influencia inclu-
ye los barrios de Horta-Guinardó, Nou Barris y Sant Andreu,
así como la ciudad deMontcada i Reixac, que comprenden una
población de más de 400.000 habitantes. El Hospital es re-
ferente para Cataluña, España y el ámbito internacional en pro-
cedimientos terciarios de alta complejidad. Concretamente,
es referencia estatal en 16 grupos de patologías CSUR (cen-
tros, servicios y unidades de referencia del Sistema Nacional
de Salud) y referencia en Cataluña para terciarismo en que-
maduras, lesiones medulares, politraumatismos, síndrome de
Marfan, enfermedades inflamatorias intestinales, esclerosis
múltiple, neonatología y cirugía fetal.
En este sentido, el Hospital apuesta por una nueva medicina
dirigida hacia la frontera del conocimiento. Una medicina que,
desde la comprensión del funcionamiento de las biomolécu-
las y los procesos biológicos, sea capaz de introducir interven-
ciones innovadoras para potenciar el desarrollo de una socie-
dad más sana y solidaria. El complejo hospitalario está estruc-
turado en tres grandes áreas asistenciales: el Área General,
el Área Materno Infantil y el Área de Traumatología y Reha-
bilitación. En el Parque Sanitario Pere Virgili, situado en un re-
cinto próximo, se encuentra la Unidad de Cirugía sin Ingre-
so. Además, el Hospital extiende su actividad a diferentes cen-
tros de atención primaria del territorio.
Con más de 1.100 camas, el Hospital apuesta por un modelo
de gestión que sitúa al paciente como centro de sus actuacio-
nes y adquiere un compromiso con el futuro a través de la do-
cencia, la investigación y la innovación, impulsando al mismo
tiempo la participación en proyectos catalanes, estatales y eu-
ropeos de investigación. La calidad es, por consiguiente, un
referente para los profesionales del Hospital por lo que ha ad-
quirido un reconocido prestigio nacional e internacional y par-
ticipa en las iniciativas del Departamento de Salud y de la em-
presa pública Instituto Catalán de la Salud, a la que pertene-
ce.
ABSTRACT
Vall d’Hebron University Hospital is one of the largest
healthcare, teaching and research complexes in Catalonia
and one of the most important in Spain, with over 22
buildings and 7,000 professionals at the service of health
and of patients. It operates a budget exceeding ¤560
million, and is located at the foot of the Collserola Hills, on
the northern edge of the city of Barcelona. Its catchment
area includes the neighbourhoods of Horta-Guinardó, Nou
Barris and Sant Andreu, plus the town of Montcada i Reixac,
in total a population of 400,000 people. Vall d’Hebron is a
referral hospital in high-complexity tertiary procedures for
Catalonia, Spain and the international community.
Specifically, it is a state-wide referral centre for 16 CSUR
(Spanish Health Service centres, services and referral units)
and a tertiary referral centre in Catalonia for burns, spinal
cord injuries, polytrauma cases, Marfan syndrome,
inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis,
neonatology and foetal surgery.
In this regard, the Hospital is committed to a new medicine,
with its sights set on the frontiers of knowledge. A medicine
that, based on an understanding of the functioning of
biomolecules and biological processes, is capable of
introducing innovative interventions that will strengthen
the development of a healthier, more caring society. The
hospital complex is structured into three main care areas:
the General Area, the Maternal/Child Area and the Trauma
Care and Rehabilitation Area. There is an Outpatient
Surgery Unit at the nearby Pere Virgili Healthcare Park and
the hospital has also extended its activity to different
primary healthcare centres (CAPs) in Catalonia.
With over 1,100 beds, the hospital uses a patient-centred
management model when providing services and
demonstrates its commitment to the future through
teaching, research, and innovation while promoting
participation in Catalan, Spanish and European research
projects. Quality is a core value for the professionals who
work at the hospital, and this has led to it acquiring prestige
as a point of reference both in Spain and abroad. Vall
d’Hebron University Hospital follows the strategies and
initiatives laid out by the Catalan Health Institute, the
public company it belongs to, and by the Catalan Ministry of
Health.
